AMDS UK Birkenhead are steel plate stockholders and processors and we import the majority of our steel from the ArcelorMittal steel mill in Gijon in Northern Spain. We receive a shipment of steel approximately once a month, with between 2000 – 3000t tonnes on each vessel, delivered directly to our quayside facility at Cathcart Quay.

Cammell Laird is one of the most famous names in British industry.
The company was founded in 1828 and is based on the River Mersey in the Liverpool City Region on the west coast of Britain. The company’s Birkenhead site expands across 130 acres and includes four dry docks, a large modular construction hall, 5.8ha non-tidal wet basin and extensive covered workshops. It is also at the centre of a marine and engineering cluster with easy access to support services classification societies and port state authorities.
Today the company is rapidly expanding as a cutting edge engineering services specialist. Its highly skilled workforce and extensive world class facilities are used to support a broad range of sectors and projects.
EMR, a global leader in metal recycling, has been operating at the docks for over 30 years loading and shipping scrap metal around the world.
From Liverpool we load and discharge vessels ranging from 500 DWT to 55,000 DWT for worldwide cargoes. We run our own stevedoring operations at multiple berths to ensure prompt vessel turnaround and as we have our own agency department we are able to take care of Owners/Master requirements whilst vessels are in port.
At Manchester, operating within the limits set by the Ship Canal we load vessels up to 7500 DWT, undertaking our own stevedoring. EMR Shipping division act as port agents at this site.
The Gladstone Biomass Terminal receives in and delivers out over 3m tonnes of wooden pellets annually for our customer Drax. The pellets arrive from South America and are discharged at a rate of up to 2000 tonnes per hour and are stored in 3 silos.
Trains are then loaded with 1650 tonnes of pellets and are sent to Drax power station in Selby, North Yorkshire with a target of 36 trains per week. The pellets provided to the power station create 8% of the UK powers supply.
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is the oldest continually operating passenger shipping company in the world, having commenced operations in 1830. The Company conveniently provides a ferry service between the capital of the Isle of Man, Douglas, and the heart of Liverpool between March and November.

Originally operating from 1879 as Edward Nicholson, the company became part of the Quality Freight Group in 1985. Peel Ports Logistics is a specialist multi task freight company with offices throughout the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe that can provide logistics solutions across the world. The UK headquarters are based on the Manchester Ship Canal at Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. This multi modal site has 6 berths and its own operational rail terminal with adjacent covered and open storage of 44 hectares, including TASSC approved handling and warehouse facilities.
